Common. It is a very prevalent mineral but only rarely forms nice crystals and so it is not often collected. Even though it is found in many countries all over the world you don't see very many pieces available for sale. Tumble stones of Siderite you see even less often. Siderite has a Mohs hardness of 3.5 to 4.5. It is a widespread mineral in sedimentary deposits, hydrothermal ore veins, also in pegmatites or basaltic rocks. It is a variety of Iron.
